Brit Marling is a remarkable woman who began her career as an actress. She soon started writing scripts and producing films on her own, including those in which she also starred. Her creative portfolio is filled with diverse projects. Learn more about Marling’s rise to fame in Hollywood at ichicago.net.

Childhood and youth

Brit was born on August 7, 1982, in Chicago. She is not the only child in the family, she has a sister. Her parents worked in real estate.

While attending school, Marling became interested in performing and completed an arts program. At Georgetown University, the girl studied economics and studio art.

Career in cinema

After her freshman year, the young girl spent the entire summer doing an internship at the Goldman Sachs banking firm. She was soon invited to work as an investment analyst, but she declined. Instead, Brit relocated to Cuba and produced “Boxers and Ballerinas,” her first documentary about the US-Cuban conflict.

In 2005, the woman relocated to Los Angeles. For two years, she gradually became acquainted with the film industry and occasionally appeared in films. The actress was frequently offered the role of a maniac’s victim or the main character’s girlfriend, which she refused as they did not suit her. Marling eventually decided to become a screenwriter and producer so that she could develop her own projects.

However, due to the economic crisis, this idea had to be shelved for a while. Instead of filming, Brit chose to try a different lifestyle. She was a freegan for several months, sleeping in tents and on roofs and eating leftover food from garbage cans.

In 2011, the actress appeared in the psychological thriller “Sound of My Voice”. She depicted the leader of a religious group that claims to have come from the future. Later, she appeared in the drama “Another Earth” as a girl who is interested in astronomy and dreams of visiting another planet. For both works, the cinematographer got numerous nominations and awards.

Two years later, Brit expanded her filmography with the political thriller “The East”. She played the character of former FBI employee Jane, who undercover infiltrates an underground organization of anarchists and environmentalists and begins an affair with Benji.

It is worth noting that on the eve of its premiere, Brit and Zal Batmanglij began developing the concept for the series “The OA”. For two years, colleagues exchanged stories with one another in order to finalize and incorporate them into the script, playing all of the roles themselves.

The first season was released in 2016, and the second premiered in the spring of 2019. The picture was originally supposed to be composed of five seasons, but the project was closed at the climax.

In 2023, Marling and Batmanglij presented another joint project, the miniseries “A Murder at the End of the World”. In the center of the plot is millionaire Andy Ronson, who invited nine guests to hang out in a private area. When one of the guests was discovered dead, amateur detective Darby Hart joins the investigation and must solve the case before the killer claims another victim.

Personal life, interesting facts

In her youth, the actress had an eight-year-long relationship with Mike Cahill. There were also allegations that she was having an affair with Zal Batmanglij, although the colleagues were just friends. Brit dislikes talking about her personal life, thus she avoids it during interviews.

Interesting fact: the actress is named after her Norwegian maternal grandmother. Her younger sister produced the films “Forever” and “Memoria”, and then became a spiritual practice coach.

Brit Marling continues to work on interesting films that are well-received by both critics and viewers.
